Dual Enrollment Partnership – Miami Dade College

What Is Dual Enrollment?

Dual Enrollment is a program that allows eligible students to simultaneously enroll in college course(s). The credits that students earn at MDC count toward high school graduation and can be applied to a college degree or certificate. This means that if your child completes the program, he/she may graduate from our school with their high school diploma alongside an Associate’s Degree from Miami Dade College.

Can my child sign up for Dual Enrollment?

Students can sign up for Dual Enrollment as early as 6th grade, as long as they meet the following requirements:

  • A minimum of 3.0 high school unweighted grade point average (GPA)
  • Passed the appropriate Reading and Writing sections of the College’s Basic Skills Assessment Test (PERT or CPT), or submitted adequate SAT/ACT scores
  • Permission from the parent/guardian, school principal, and counselor
  • Met with the College Dual Enrollment Coordinator at the campus he/she plans to attend
  • An understanding that the amount of work necessary to succeed in dual enrollment courses will be greater than in high school courses

I want to sign up! What do I do now?

If your child meets all the requirements for dual enrollment and you believe they can handle the added coursework, please call or visit our office to schedule a meeting with our principals. This meeting is to further discuss eligibility and space in our Dual Enrollment program. We hope to hear from you!
